Have you ever been to an inspirational talk or workshop where many people attended and had the experience of the speaker or workshop leader sharing from the depth of their experience in a deeply fluid and articulate way which left you feeling in awe? Ever wished that you could have the courage, presence and capacity to do the same, sharing your gifts with the world? Embodied Speaking offers us the opportunity to learn to express ourselves both fully and authentically. Last Tuesday evening I ran the first Embodied Speaking class. It was a deeply inspiring experience for me to witness the level of beauty that can unfold in such a short amount of time. I am deeply grateful to Lee Glickstein and Doreen Hamilton for their training in Speaking Circles which has given me a structure and set of reference points for canalising my gifts in facilitating authentic expression. So giving an inspirational speech. How do we do that? It seems obvious no? It all comes down to knowing and studying your subject, high self-confidence, projecting yourself correctly, intensive planning and preparation and learning how to speak. Of course you can only really give an inspirational speech when you have worked on yourself and your issues long enough and you are closer to perfection, no? Errrm not exactly.
These are the things you need to be able to give a powerful and inspirational speech and anyone can do it, you don’t have to be ‘special’. Firstly speaking actually has very little to do with speaking and everything to do with listening. Listening to the field of your audience, listening to your own breath, listening to something beyond the voices in your head, slowing down, holding back and waiting until something deeper begins speaking itself through us. We can all realise this potential. Often the journey to get there is about letting ourselves feel the support of the audience and to begin to be willing to feel and give expression to the things in life which have hurt us or challenged us in some way. If we can just learn to be with ourselves and others and whatever we are feeling or experiencing in the present moment without rushing to do something about it, fix something or achieve something then a whole universe of space can begin to open up for inspiration to begin flowing through us with much greater force. We have learned growing up that we have to be a certain way in order to be accepted, now as adults it is time for us to learn that we don’t have to be anything for anyone, we are free to just be ourselves, no matter that means we are feeling difficult feelings or joyfully dancing like we have won the lottery. So what do we need to give an Inspirational Speech? We need courage, we need to listen deeply, we need to learn to let go to the flow of what is happening right now and that is it! Sounds simple? Well yes living a powerful and successful life is very simple but so many of us make a meal out of it. Embodied Speaking will help you realise the simplicity of life and being again, it will help you to find your voice and reclaim it from whatever dark corner of your soul it has been kept in. Embodied Speaking helps us to remember deep trust within ourselves and in relationship to others. When I found Speaking Circles work last year it was like a light turned on inside of me that had been waiting to be turned on my whole life. This work is so simple but it works! I stand by it wholeheartedly. Now I am really listening to life and the gifts being offered to me are beyond anything I could have imagined. I would love to share this work with you.
"Now I realize that the trees blossom in Spring
and bear fruit in Summer without seeking praise,
and they drop their leaves in Autumn
and become naked in winter without fearing shame.
He who has not looked on Sorrow will never see Joy.
In the depth of my soul there is a wordless song.
Our appearance, our words, our actions are never greater than ourselves.
For the soul is our house, our eyes its windows, and our words its messengers.
God has given to each of us a spirit with wings,
wings on which to soar into the spacious firmament of Love and Freedom."
