"A Transformational Approach To Public Speaking"
Expressing ourselves in front of an audience can be a really difficult experience mostly because we put so much pressure on ourselves to say something interesting that the words do not flow, we become frozen and anxious, the words have no space to flow. When we begin to feel safe enough to slow down, make genuine warm contact both with ourselves and the audience, in this space words can begin to arrive and find their way into flow again.
This work invites you into a more warm and authentic relationship with the audience and with yourselves. This whole process will enable you to speak with greater calmness, ease and confidence in any speaking situation whether it be in your place of work, in relationships or any area of life that would benefit from clear, open & relaxed communication.
What is Embodied Speaking?
Embodied Speaking is an integration of both the Speaking Circles work of Lee Glickstein & Doreen Hamilton in California & Somatic Experiencing work of Dr Peter Levine. Embodied Speaking teaches us that when we take a moment to slow down, make contact with other human beings and take the risk of feeling what is happening right now in a safe space, a possibility opens to give expression to something deeper and more authentic in the present moment. This process helps to heal us from the anxiety of speaking in front of groups and instills in us a greater sense of self-confidence and freedom to express ourselves. This work supports a deepening of intimacy in relationship with ourselves and with others, so we can be more honest & genuine more of the time. Embodied Speaking is an approach that supports the healing of trauma around Speaking so we can really begin relaxing into ourselves & enjoying our lives more fully.
What happens in the classes?
In classes firstly I will teach some basic principles to help with being present with one another in a supportive way. We will take some time to share in small groups and introduce ourselves. We may do an exercise or two in pairs to create some more safety. Finally in the second half of the class we will each take turns to speak inside a safe structure. There is no pressure to speak at all, you are welcome to simply be silent, it is your choice. We warmly welcome you!

Video Recording & Self Reflection
If you choose to speak in the second half of the class you have the option of being recorded on video camera. This recording will be made available to you a few days after the class via WE-Transfer. No one else will view this recording, it is just for you and will be deleted 2 weeks after being uploaded to WE-Transfer. I have found this way of self reflecting to be extremely helpful to my personal development and highly recommend it. It offers a real reality check!!! As often we go into negative self talking after speaking and watching ourselves in reality can really help us to realise that we are not as bad as we think we are!
